AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY (VK1)
Australian Capital Territory (abbreviated ACT) (formerly, "The Territory for the Seat of Government" and, later, the "Federal Capital Territory") is a territory in the south east of Australia, enclaved within New South Wales. It is the smallest self-governing internal territory in Australia.
The only (and by definition the most populous) city is Camberra, the capital city of Australia.
The ACT also has a small strip of territory around the southern end of the Beecroft Peninsula, which is the northern headland of Jervis Bay.

Parks in the Australian Capital Territory and controlled by the ACT Parks and Conservation Service which comes under the Environment and Planning Directorate.
TYPES OF PARKS IN THE ACT.
- National Park
- Nature Reserves (some of which form the Canberra Nature Park)
- Special Purpose Reserves
- Recreation Area
QUALIFYING PARKS IN THE ACT.
There are currently 50 qualifying parks in the ACT. They consist of Namadgi National Park, numerous Nature Parks, and the Bimberi Wilderness Area.
The list of parks was compiled from CAPAD data, Environment ACT information, and also with the assistance of Ian VK1DI, Andrew VK1AD, and Andrew VK1DA.

NO ACCESS.
- Kinlyside VKFF-1774 - Public entry to Kinlyside Nature Reserve is presently not permitted. The reserve is presently under a rural lease and formally closed to the public under the Nature Conservation Act 2014.
EXTRA INFORMATION.
- Gungaderra Grassland Nature Reserve VKFF-0843 - is also referred to as the Gungaderra Grasslands Nature Reserve.
- Kinlyside Nature Reserve VKFF-1774 is also referred to as Kinleyside Nature Reserve.
- Jerrabomberra Nature Reserve VKFF-0993 is also known as the Jerrabomberra West Grassland Nature Reserve and Jerrabomberra West Grasslands Nature Reserve.
- Mount Pleasant Nature Reserve VKFF-1775 - avoid operating close to the Mt Pleasant summit car park. Note the car park is regularly patrolled by Australian Federal Police Officers - they may warn you about operating close to Duntroon Military Academy. Suggest operating further down the hill above Northcote Dr).
FORMER VK1 REFERENCE AREAS.
- Gungahlin Hill Nature Reserve VKFF-0844 is now part of Gungaderra Grassland Nature Reserve VKFF-0843.
- Kama Nature Reserve VKFF-0848 and Lower Molonglo River Corridor Nature Reserve VKFF-0990 are now known as Molonglo River Nature Reserve VKFF-3184. This occurred in 2018.
