ABOUT VKFF
WHEN DID VKFF COMMENCE?
Australian Flora and Fauna in amateur radio, abbreviated as VKFF, commenced in March 2013, is an authorised partner and a recognised national program of the World Wide Flora & Fauna (WWFF) program.
HOW MANY VKFF PARKS ARE THERE?
There are currently over 6,400 qualifying parks in Australia.
WHO RUNS THE VKFF PROGRAM?
The VKFF Team comprises a National Co-Ordinator, Deputy National Co-Ordinator, Treasurer, State/Territory representatives, and State/Territory publicity representatives.
HOW DOES VKFF WORK?
VKFF operates on the accrual of VKFF reference areas. It is not a point-based system.
WHAT PARKS QUALIFY FOR VKFF?
For a park to be added to the VKFF program, it must fall within the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Protected Areas Categories System found in the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA). The database can be found at.......

Parks that have an IUCN category are deemed to have conservation significance.
If the park does not have an IUCN category, it cannot be added to the WWFF program.
If the park does not have an IUCN category, it cannot be added to the WWFF program.
WHAT DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR VKFF?
The VKFF program does not include the following:
State Forests are not included as they are not deemed to be protected areas by government agencies, and as such, they are not allocated an IUCN category. State Forests are primarily managed for timber production and resource extraction rather than strict ecological conservation.
Parks in the program must have some conservation significance. The WWFF program does not want the local corner park with a playground included, and thus, the use of the IUCN category system.
